Denver Veggies & Herbs
Growing your own vegetables is a great way to save money, the environment, and results in better nutrition. Vegetables from your own yard travel a much shorter distance than those on grocery store shelves, resulting in a fresher taste. Choosing the right vegetable seeds and starter plants for your garden is essential for its success. The Denver climate requires gardeners to take special care with their gardening plans. Whether you are a beginner or have a green thumb, let the experienced and friendly team at Country Fair Garden Center help you to get your garden to grow!
An Independent Garden Center
Country Fair Garden Center traces its roots to 1948 when Al and Esther Gerace planted vegetables for feeding their family. Using a horse-drawn plow, the Geraces learned the best methods for agriculture and transformed this knowledge into a successful business.
The Country Fair Garden Center has served garden enthusiasts since 1954. Three generations of Geraces keep the tradition going by sharing the years of knowledge and experience with Denver area residents.
Growing fresh vegetables isn't a cookie cutter process as the big box stores tend to promote. Each garden is unique to the soil and climate that surrounds it, especially in Colorado.
At Country Fair Garden Center, we love sharing our knowledge with area residents so that they find the right fit for their gardening needs. Our focus is on providing quality vegetable seeds and starter plants that thrive in the unique climate of Denver.
We take great pride in being family owned and operated. It is our history and heritage as growers that make us the right choice for your gardening needs.
Your Source for Denver Vegetable Gardens
The Country Fair Garden Center has a long tradition of serving Denver area residents with everything they need for a successful garden. We take great pride in knowing what works best for the Colorado climate and soil.
In addition to healthy plants, seeds, and herbs, and supplies such as organic potting soil and fertilizer, we also offer outstanding customer service. We listen to each customer and provide information and guidance specific to their garden plans.
The Gerace family believes in community involvement and partnered with the Garden Centers of Colorado (GCC) and Colorado State University on the X-Rated Xeriscape Gardening program. The system rates plants based upon the amount of water they need to survive. This rating system is helpful for the state's dry climate and for when there are water restrictions.
Pair Your Fresh Vegetables with Our Fresh Herbs
Get creative with your cooking by pairing fresh herbs with your garden vegetables. No matter where you plant them, in the garden or in a container, kitchen herbs add flavor to any dish. By using this handy pairing guide, you can easily bring out the undiscovered chef in you:
- Tomatoes - At Country Fair Garden Center, we offer a variety of tomato starter plants and seeds. One such plant is the "Better Boy" which produces hearty tomatoes. Make your own spaghetti sauce by combining the tomatoes with basil and parsley. For extra flavor, add a dash of fresh oregano.
- Brussel Sprouts - Just the name of this vegetable makes many people wrinkle their nose. These tiny round cabbages are high in vitamins K and C and contain high amounts of fiber. Pair Brussel sprouts with oregano, dill, or thyme and you might just learn to like them!
- Sugar Snap Peas - These sweet veggies blend well with such herbs as thyme, tarragon, mint, and marjoram. Try this simple recipe for cooking sugar snap peas with just one of the herbs listed above—you choose the herb!
The list goes on-and-on for creating simple, healthy, and tasty dishes for you and your family. Our friendly staff can help you decide which vegetables and herbs are right for your garden and cooking plans.
The Right Supplies for Your Denver Garden
The dry climate of the Denver region, along with the tough soil conditions and higher elevation makes gardening more of a challenge. That's where we can help. From start to finish, our team can help you begin your gardening adventure, or expand it.
- Our Plants - We proudly sell plants from our family partner, Hardy Boy. These plants are grown exclusively at Welby Gardens, another Gerace family-owned business. These hardy plants live up to their name, producing vibrant colors and fresh tasting vegetables, no matter what the weather conditions.
- Soil & Fertilizer - The rocky, sandy soil of the Denver region usually need a boost when it comes to planting a garden. Adding rich soil and fertilizer can help the soil to support the hardy plants and vegetable seeds you plant by providing important nutrients.
At Country Fair Garden Center, we offer potting soil and organic soil, fertilizer and organic fertilizer, compost, and more for healthier garden soil. Be aware that not all fertilizer is the same. For example, vegetable plants do better with a fertilizer that is specific to them. Knowledge like this is what makes our team highly-skilled professionals when it comes to gardening.
Getting started or expanding your garden is often an overwhelming process. This is where our experience as an independent Denver garden center can help guide your decision. We want your garden to become a success. That's why we work hard to ensure you have the right tools, supplies, and instructions you'll need for creating a thriving garden.
